JANUARY 2016 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

LUKE MAXWELL

  • I decided to start getting into shape in December 2014 and joined the local Gym. I spent the next 3 months doing your average weight training but got bored quickly and was lacking motivation. My lovely wife Danielle had been doing CrossFit for a while at that stage and suggested I give it a shot, so in April 2015 I took the plunge and completed my “On-Ramp”. So I’ve been CrossFiting now for 9 months.
  • I’ve found that since starting CrossFit, I have a lot more energy in day to day life. I’m really feeling healthier than ever, physically and mentally.
  • I like anything strength related but narrowing it down, I have to say that there is no better feeling than throwing up a heavy snatch, getting down under it and feel it land perfectly in your hands. You hear the plates rattle, your perfectly balanced and you know you’ve got it. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen perfectly for me as often as I’d like but hey, I’m working on it.
  • Double unders.
    Whenever I see them in a Workout I know I’m in for some hurt, they destroy me and make anything that follows twice as hard.
  • Burpees, no. Defiantly Squats, Front squat or back squat doesn’t matter; it’s one of my favourite movements.
  • I would much prefer to run over row. Like double unders, rowing wrecks me.
  • HSPU, definitely could not do them before I started at ‘Plus’. At first thought, I was like is that even a thing? When I first started performing them I really struggled to keep from falling off the wall… let alone push up. Now I can do 15 no worries without reducing the R.O.M.
  • If I do have a post workout shake its Optimum Nutrition – Extreme Milk Chocolate
  • Best Cheat meal would be Pizza for sure…..drooling just thinking about it
  • When I am not in the gym I love to hang out with the family doing anything, doesn’t matter what, so long as we’re together
  • Coffee; Strong, Black and sweet
  • Bacon?
    Are you suggesting there are people out there that don’t like Bacon? I don’t trust those people.
  • The things I enjoy the most about CrossFit Plus;
    In short, it’s the People. I’m a shy guy by nature and it takes a bit to get me involved and talking to people. I’ve found everyone I’ve met at CrossFit Plus, Athletes and Coaches to be very supportive and have helped me to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of.
